Was pleased to win first place in the Q3 Image Competition of the Wedding Photographic Society in the Photojournalism category, which is my favourite.
This photo was taken during a recent wedding as the priest began communion. I always strive to make my compositions as interesting as possible and so lined up the bride and groom to be silhouetted against the priest’s white vestments. There was a large Paschal candle near the font at the back of the church that I used to throw out of focus, frame the picture and bring some visual interest, I brought in the candles towards the altar and the altar boy lost in thought, waited till the priest raised his eyes to heaven and took the picture.
In my early posts in this series, I talked about composition, lighting and emotion being the three things I look for. I waited for this image to come together to provide all three elements and it is one of my favourites from the past year.
